چکیده

Simultaneous manipulation of multiple boundary conditions in nanoscale heterostructures offers a versatile route to stabilizing unusual structures and emergent phases. Here, we show that stable supercrystal phase comprising three-dimensional ordering domains with tailored periodicities can be engineered PbTiO3–SrRuO3 ferroelectric–metal superlattices. A combination laboratory synchrotron X-ray diffraction, piezoresponse force microscopy, scanning transmission electron microscopy phase-field simulations reveals complex hierarchical domain structure forms minimize the elastic electrostatic energy. Large local deformations ferroelectric lattice are accommodated by periodic modulations metallic SrRuO3 layers curvatures up 107 m?1. Our results multidomain systems exploited as templates induce large correlated materials, present for engineering materials modulated structural electronic properties controlled using electric fields. Ferroelectric superlattices rich variety phenomena. PbTiO3/SrRuO3 superlattices, it is shown form, metal showing curvatures.

Bound States in Curved Quantum Layers

We consider a nonrelativistic quantum particle constrained to a curved layer of constant width built over a non-compact surface embedded in R. We suppose that the latter is endowed with the geodesic polar coordinates and that the layer has the hard-wall boundary. Under the assumption that the surface curvatures vanish at infinity we find sufficient conditions which guarantee the existence of ge...

Excitation fronts on a periodically modulated curved surface

The evolution of an excitation front propagating on a nonuniformly curved surface is considered within the framework of a kinematical model of its motion. For the case of a surface with a periodically modulated curvature an exact solution of the front shape is obtained under the assumption of sufficiently small surface deformation. The results of the theoretical consideration are compared with ...

Diffraction control in periodically curved two-dimensional waveguide arrays.

We study propagation of light beams in two-dimensional photonic lattices created by periodically curved waveguide arrays. We demonstrate that by designing the waveguide bending, one can control not only the strength and sign of the beam diffraction, but also to engineer the effective geometry and even dimensionality of the two-dimensional photonic lattice. We reveal that diffraction of differen...

Observation of dynamic localization in periodically curved waveguide arrays.

We report on a direct experimental observation of dynamic localization (DL) of light in sinusoidally-curved lithium-niobate waveguide arrays which provides the optical analog of DL for electrons in periodic potentials subjected to ac electric fields as originally proposed by Dunlap and Kenkre [Phys. Rev. B 34, 3625 (1986)10.1103/PhysRevB.34.3625]. The theoretical condition for DL in a sinusoida...
